About the Meggs Foundation
The Meggs Foundation began as a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of North Carolina. Initially, its sole purpose was to raise and provide funds for Daniel Meggs who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. The funds provided were to help pay for living expenses and to seek out-of-network treatment and new clinical trials. Daniel was unable to work full-time and also needed help navigating the health care insurance system.
After Daniel’s passing, the Meggs Foundation applied for 501c3 status that was approved by the State of North Carolina in September 2021. The mission has now shifted to providing financial assistance to young adults throughout the Charlotte metropolitan area.
We have entered into a referral agreement with Levine Cancer Institute to identify qualified young adults to receive our assistance. We also welcome the opportunity to work with other health care providers through similar referral agreements.
The financial assistance application process is administered directly by The Meggs Foundation Board of Directors. There is no paid staff and minimal administrative costs except for the hosting of fundraising events. Our general eligibility requirements for recipients can be found here.
Patient Stories
The cancer patients we help are the very reason for our existence. They are young adults in the Greater Charlotte area who have received the difficult news of a cancer diagnosis and are undergoing treatments. Here are some of their stories.

A grant from the Meggs Foundation helped her family pay some of their bills.

Chantia's Story
Chantia, a CMS assistant teacher and mother of two daughters, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and began undergoing a series of chemotherapy treatments. A grant from the Meggs Foundation helped her with mounting bills, taking away a great deal of stress during her healing.

These stories represent just a few of the many young adults fighting cancer that the Meggs Foundation has been able to help with emergency financial assistance. For them, it often means the difference between losing a home or accumulating overwhelming and even insurmountable debt. The many letters of gratitude and appreciation we continue to receive let us know that our mission is vital to the Charlotte area community and that we are indeed fulfilling a worthwhile purpose.
