Initially, its sole purpose was to raise and provide funds for Daniel Meggs who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. The funds provided were to help pay for living expenses and to seek out-of-network treatment and new clinical trials. Daniel was unable to work full-time and also needed help navigating the health care insurance system.<\/p><p class=\"vc_custom_heading vc_do_custom_heading vc_custom_1631027846585\">After Daniel\u2019s passing, the <strong>Meggs Foundation<\/strong> applied for 501c3 status that was approved by the State of North Carolina in September 2021. The mission has now shifted to providing financial assistance to young adults throughout the Charlotte metropolitan area.<\/p><p class=\"vc_custom_heading vc_do_custom_heading vc_custom_1631027863817\">We have entered into a referral agreement with Levine Cancer Institute to identify qualified young adults to receive our assistance. We also welcome the opportunity to work with other health care providers through similar referral agreements.<\/p><p class=\"vc_custom_heading vc_do_custom_heading vc_custom_1708377916841\">The financial assistance application process is administered directly by The <strong>Meggs Foundation Board of Directors<\/strong>. There is no paid staff and minimal administrative costs except for the hosting of fundraising events. He underwent <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW175240662 BCX0\">chemotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant which forced him to take an extended leave of absence. She underwent a bi-lateral mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation that required her to take a six-month leave of absence from her job at a financial services company.
